Cameras and photography involve so many varied aspects; logical, emotional, artistic, pragmatic, and intangible. God help you if you can afford to experiment, buy and sell, in hopes of reaching the nirvana he speaks of here.

I don’t have a group of photography friends I could borrow from, and most rentals are for 4 days or so, which is not enough time to form a complete opinion on something before buying. Buy used, sure … but you’ll still lose a bunch selling it unless you put a lot of time and effort into marketing it on the used gear sites, which may or not be worth your time.

The most difficult part is the feelings. Finding gear that will give you the output you want is not nearly as difficult or expensive and finding the gear that feels the best.
